Darkness Descends

July 17, 2009

Hey Pet Society fans! It’s that time of week again, where “?” leaves us wondering what he’s hidden now. Sirius paid a visit to the Mystery Store earlier, to buy a few boxes, and to see if she could get any information from “?” about what might be on the cards this week. As usual, he wasn’t giving too much away, but he did mutter a few things, however they seem rather cryptic:

  • Single legged carpentry! (Blue Mystery Box)
  • Sign of the times! (Golden Mystery Box)
  • Bale of fun! (Golden Mystery Box)

So sign on to Pet Society on Facebook, and see if you can work out the clues, as these items are now hidden in Mystery Boxes!

There is one more thing that you should be aware of, and that is that your light switches are now functional! Simply click the light switch to have your pet turn the lights off or on – if you do leave your light switch on the ground, your pet will interact with it automatically.

Just a couple of things to note, if you leave a room and return to it, the lights will be on (not matter how you left them). Also, when using the photo feature, even when taking a photo with the lights off, the photo will still appear bright (the camera has a very good flash).

Please note that this update is for the Facebook version of the game only. The MySpace and Bebo versions of the game have not changed at this stage.

Pet Society is back up and we’re working hard to keep it that way

July 17, 2009

Pet Society has experienced maintenance issues in the past few days which has made it hard for you to access the game. We have resolved those issues and Pet Society is now back up and running smoothly.

Here’s what has been going on: The number of people playing Pet Society has grown incredibly quickly. We knew we had a great game on our hands, and we knew you were going to enjoy it, but we had no idea just how much. Take yesterday for example: 3.6 million of you played Pet Society. That’s a phenomenal number of people to all be playing at roughly the same time, and we’re thrilled to see so many of you loving our game.

But there’s a flipside to all this incredible growth. As the number of players rapidly expands, the infrastructure behind the scenes has to be constantly reconfigured to keep up. It’s a bit like running a huge city with a population of many millions, but every day hundreds of thousands more people move in. The whole infrastructure of the city needs to be constantly improved to accomodate the increasing numbers of people.

The good news is that our engineers have been working tirelessly around the clock to make sure that the game runs more smoothly. We have fixed the issues and taken Pet Society out of maintenance mode, and you should find that it’s running more smoothly than before. It’s enormously important to us that the wait is as little time as possible so we’re doing everything we can to make make sure these maintenance periods become shorter and less frequent.

Thank you for all your patience over the last few days. To show our gratitude, we’re giving you all 1,500 coins to spend. Also, we have some new features and surprises on the way very soon so stay tuned. We think you’re going to love what we’ve got planned. Have fun!

note: this post is relevant for those that play Pet Society on Facebook only.

birthday-competition

Hey Pet Society fans!

Do you remember when there wasn’t a Stadium in Pet Society? When the Café was just a construction site? Newer players may find it hard to believe, but at one point there were no Mystery Boxes, let alone a whole Mystery Store! How about this: can you remember when there wasn’t a Pet Society?

It’s hard to believe we know, but a little under a year ago, there wasn’t! That’s right, on the 8th of August, 2009, we celebrate the first birthday of Pet Society!

To celebrate, we thought we’d make some lucky pets rich beyond their wildest dreams. You may have thought that the 100 thousand coins for the Garden Competition seemed like a pretty awesome amount of coins, but how about a million? Sounds good doesn’t it? So we’re going to make someone a Pet Society millionaire!
